Custom Work Shirts for Paramus Businesses: Polos, Tees and Jackets That Fit the Job

Paramus runs on retail, restaurants, medical offices and the contractors who keep them open. Here is how a local business can outfit its staff, from three new hires to a full crew, without overspending.

Paramus is an unusual place to run a business. It has more retail than almost anywhere in the state, it closes most of that retail on Sundays, and it has a steady stream of restaurants, salons, medical offices, gyms, auto shops and contractors in between the malls. We are a small shop in Paramus, and most of the business shirts we make are for companies within a few miles of us. Our general uniform guide covers the basics for any business. This one is about what works for Paramus specifically.

Why staff shirts matter more here

Bergen County is the only county in New Jersey that still enforces Sunday closing for most retail, including clothing, according to Bergen County's shopping page. The rules were back in the news this year when they faced a challenge in court, as NJ Spotlight News reported. For a local business, the practical result is that Saturdays are packed. When the store is busy, a customer should be able to find someone who works there in two seconds. A matching shirt does that better than a name tag.

Printed items have no minimum (a single printed tee is $23.00); embroidered items start at 6 pieces. Embroidery includes one location up to 8,000 stitches and up to 9 thread colors, which covers most left-chest logos. Digitizing is a one-time $35.00 per logo, waived at 24 pieces or more. For colder months, a heavyweight Independent EXP550Z insulated canvas work jacket with a printed logo starts at $89.50, and a coach's jacket at $62.50.

No sales tax on any of the apparel. New Jersey's clothing guidance lists work uniforms as exempt.

Printed or embroidered?

  • Embroidery looks more formal, survives commercial laundry and suits polos, hats and jackets. Small text under about a quarter inch is hard to stitch, so simple logos work best.
  • Printing handles full color, photos, gradients and big back designs, costs less at small quantities and is faster: 7 to 10 business days versus 10 to 15 for embroidery.

Our printing method guide goes deeper. A common mix for Paramus shops: embroidered polos for the front counter, printed tees for the back of house and delivery.

Handling new hires and turnover

Retail and restaurant teams change often. A few habits keep uniforms simple:

  1. Lock the design. Keep one logo file, one garment and one color. Reorders then match.
  2. Order a small buffer. Two extra shirts in M and L cover most new hires until the next order.
  3. Reorder in small batches. Printed shirts have no minimum, so three shirts for three new hires is a normal order. For embroidered polos, reorder in sixes.
  4. Pick standard dyed colors. Black, navy, charcoal and white stay consistent from order to order. Garment-dyed shirts vary a little each batch.

The rest of the storefront

Uniforms are one piece of looking like a real business. We also make vinyl window lettering for store hours and logos, banners, A-frame inserts and aluminum signs, and truck door lettering. If you are opening a new location, our storefront lettering guide covers the Paramus window sign rules, and our truck lettering guide covers what NJ requires on work vehicles.

Timing and pickup

The clock starts when your deposit (50%) is paid and you approve the mockup. Printed shirts take 7 to 10 business days (rush 5 for 25% more), and embroidery takes 10 to 15. We are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11 to 3, with contactless pickup at our front door in Paramus. Book a pickup time when your order is ready, or we can ship.

How many shirts per employee?

A simple starting point most small businesses land on:

  • Full-time staff: three shirts each, so there is always one clean while one is in the wash.
  • Part-time and weekend staff: two shirts each. Saturdays in Paramus are long, and a spare helps.
  • Owners and managers: one or two in a different style, like an embroidered polo or quarter-zip, so customers know who to ask.
  • Winter: one hoodie, quarter-zip or jacket per person for anyone who works near the door or outside.

Collect sizes in one sheet before you order, and include a couple of extra M and L shirts for new hires. That keeps you out of the "one shirt for one new person" cycle.

Hats and cold-weather gear for outdoor crews

For landscapers, contractors and delivery staff, the shirt is only half the uniform. An embroidered trucker or dad hat is the easiest add-on, because one size fits most and nobody has to be measured. In winter, a cuffed beanie with a small logo and a heavyweight hoodie or insulated work jacket keep the crew branded on job sites from November to March. Order the cold-weather pieces in October so they arrive before the first freeze.
