New Jersey Gifts for People Who Say Taylor Ham

Gifts for the person who answers "what exit?" without thinking, misses the 201 after moving away, or has opinions about breakfast. These are the Jersey designs in our shop, what each one costs, and when to order so it arrives before the holidays.

Most of these designs are drawn around things only people from here get: the 201 area code, the Garden State Parkway exit you grew up off, and a breakfast sandwich with two names. Every item is made to order when you buy it, so there is no stock to run out of. Prices below are the starting price for each item; 2XL and 3XL cost a little more because the blanks cost us more.

For the 201 crowd

Area code 201 was one of the original area codes of 1947, when it covered all of New Jersey. Today it covers most of Bergen and Hudson counties (Wikipedia). People who move away tend to keep the number on their phone, which tells you something.

Taylor ham, pork roll, whatever you call it

In North Jersey it is Taylor ham, in South Jersey it is pork roll, and the line is somewhere around the Raritan River (KPBS/NPR). John Taylor of Trenton first sold it as a ham, and the name changed after the 1906 food labeling law said it could not be called ham. North Jersey kept the old name anyway.

Our Pork Roll Tee, from $34.00, lists the order the way you would say it at the counter: pork roll, egg and cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup. We picked one name for the shirt and are staying out of the debate. The New Jersey Gift Box pairs it with the New Jersey Winter Tee and the Good Morning, Bergen County mug for $78.00.

What exit?

Every New Jerseyan has answered this at a party. In Bergen County, the Parkway runs from Elmwood Park at exit 157 to Montvale at exit 172, the last exit before New York, and Paramus has exits 161, 163 and 165 (Wikipedia). The What Exit Hoodie is $56.00, and the Paramus Routes Crewneck, with Route 4 and Route 17 under the town name, is $48.00.

Bergen County and the Garden State

Bergen County was formed in 1683 as one of the four original counties of East Jersey (County of Bergen), which is the year on several of these.

Hometown crewnecks and tees

We drew a few for towns near us. If yours is on the list, it makes an easy gift for someone who grew up there:

If your town is not here, you can make your own in our designer with any text you like and no minimum. Our holiday gifts page has ideas for that.

Our own everyday designs

If they would rather not wear a place name, these are the quieter ones with our shop name on them: the Crossroads Vintage Wash Tee from $38.00, the Crossroads Heavyweight Boxy Tee from $40.00, and the Crossroads Collegiate Tee with Paramus, N.J. under the lettering, from $34.00.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a good gift for someone from North Jersey?

Something they will wear that says where they are from. Our 201 North Jersey Tee starts at $30.00, the Pork Roll Tee at $34.00 and the What Exit Hoodie at $56.00. The New Jersey Gift Box, two tees and a mug, is $78.00.

Is it Taylor ham or pork roll?

In North Jersey most people say Taylor ham, and in South Jersey most say pork roll. John Taylor of Trenton first sold it as Taylor's Prepared Ham, and it was renamed pork roll after the 1906 food labeling law. Our tee says pork roll, egg and cheese and stays out of the debate.

When should I order for Christmas delivery?

For delivery by Wednesday, December 23, order shop designs by Wednesday, December 9. For Hanukkah delivery by Thursday, December 3, order by Wednesday, November 18. Pickup in Paramus is free.

Can I put my own town or family name on a shirt instead?

Yes. Our designer lets you put any text or image on a tee, hoodie or crewneck, with no minimum. See holiday gifts with your own design.
