Most December events in Bergen County are run by volunteers: a tree lighting put on by the recreation department, a menorah lighting at the library, a toy drive at the firehouse, a church Christmas fair, a holiday market in a school gym. They all need the same few things. A sign at the entrance, a few signs pointing the way, and something big enough to see from the road.
We are a small, owner-run shop from Paramus, and yard signs and banners are a big part of our December. The prices below come from our live sign designer. The signs and banners themselves are produced by our sign partner, and you pick them up contactless in Paramus or we ship them.
A simple sign set for one event
For a typical one-day event, this covers it:
- One banner at the main entrance or on the fence by the road. A 3 x 6 ft holiday event banner is $54.00, and a long 2 x 8 ft banner for a fence or a stage front is $50.00. Hems and grommets every 2 ft are included, so you can zip-tie it to a fence.
- Five to ten directional yard signs with an arrow and the time, placed at the turns people will miss. Ten 18 x 24 inch signs are $12.50 each, $125.00 for the set.
- One A-frame insert by the door that says what is inside and when. An 18 x 24 inch A-frame insert is $22.50.
The church and community event template, the Happy Holidays lawn sign and the food drive template are ready to edit. Change the words, add your logo, and you will see the price for your quantity before you order.
Prices for holiday event signs
| Sign | Good for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Yard sign, 18 x 24 in | Directions, parking, "Toy drop-off here" | $24.00 each, $15.00 each for 5, $11.50 each for 25 |
| Yard sign, 18 x 24 in, two-sided | Signs at a corner, read from both directions | $26.00 each, $15.00 each for 10 |
| Yard sign, 24 x 36 in | The main sign on a busy road | $39.50 |
| Vinyl banner, 3 x 6 ft | Entrance, booth or stage | $54.00 |
| Vinyl banner, 2 x 8 ft | Fence along the road, front of a table | $50.00 |
| A-frame insert, 18 x 24 in | Sidewalk or door | $22.50 |
Each yard sign comes with one H-stake. If you would rather hang yard signs on a fence or a railing, grommets instead of stakes are a one-time $15.00 setup per order. Signs have a $35.00 order minimum. New Jersey charges its 6.625% sales tax on most tangible goods (NJ Division of Taxation), and that includes signs. Shipping is $14.99 for up to 2 signs and $24.99 for up to 10.
Order-by dates for December events
Standard turnaround for signs is 7 to 10 business days after checkout. Rush is 3 business days for 25% more, on yard signs and A-frame inserts only, and it needs a sign order of $250.00 or more. Banners cannot be rushed. These dates already allow for the days we are closed for Thanksgiving.

Where you can put them
This is where most event signs go wrong. Volunteers put signs on the grass strip by the curb or zip-tie them to a pole, and they get pulled by the town the next morning. Rules differ by town, so here is what we found for a few of them. We are not zoning experts, so check with your town before the event.
- Fair Lawn allows temporary signs for public, charitable, holiday or patriotic purposes for up to 45 consecutive days, but no signs within a street right-of-way or on utility poles (§ 125-41, published by Zoneomics).
- Ridgewood does not allow temporary signs on public property, in the right-of-way or on the sidewalk, and that includes trees, telephone poles and street signs (PermitPal).
- Hackensack requires a permit even for temporary signs, with a limit of 8 square feet and 30 days, and it waives the temporary sign fee for community special events (city sign ordinance). A 2 x 4 ft banner is exactly 8 square feet and is $30.50. More on our Hackensack signs page.
- Paramus adopted a new sign ordinance for its highway commercial zones in October 2026 that bans banners and limits A-frames to 4 square feet (TAPinto Paramus). If your event is at a business on Route 4 or Route 17, read our Paramus signs page first. An 18 x 24 inch A-frame insert is 3 square feet, so it fits.
The safe version almost everywhere: put directional signs on private lawns and lots with the owner's permission, keep them out of the curb strip, and take them all down the day after.
Winter tips for yard signs
- Frozen ground. An H-stake goes into soft ground by hand, but in a cold snap it may not. Make a pilot hole with a long screwdriver or a piece of rebar first, and never hammer on the sign itself. Or order grommets and zip-tie the signs to a fence or railing instead.
- It gets dark early. Many December events start after 4 or 5 in the evening, so use big, high-contrast lettering, dark on white or white on dark green or red, and put signs where streetlights or a porch light reach them.
- Two-sided at corners. A directional sign at an intersection gets read from both directions. Two-sided is $15.00 each at 10, compared with $12.50 for one side.
- Fewer words. People read a yard sign from a moving car. The event name, one arrow and the time is usually enough. Put the full details on a flyer or on the A-frame by the door.
- Leave the date off and reuse them. If the event comes back every year, a sign that says "Tree Lighting, this way" with no year can come back out next December. Corrugated plastic stores flat in a closet.
Nonprofits, churches and schools
If your group has a New Jersey ST-5 exempt organization certificate, purchases related to your purpose are exempt from sales tax when you pay with organization funds, not a volunteer's personal card (NJ Division of Taxation). Send us a copy of the ST-5 before you order. If the same group needs volunteer shirts, see our team and group shirts guide; we press those in-house.
Picking them up
Pickup is contactless in Paramus on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11am to 3pm. When your order is ready, we email you to set a pickup time, or text (201) 948-4433. If you are not sure which signs you need, our Start here picker can help, or go straight to the sign designer.
